Orel Beilinson is a historian of imperial and post-imperial, but mainly socialist, eastern Europe. He is interested in the relationships between ideologies and between ideologies and social, political, and legal structures and practices. As such, his current researches investigate the relationship between socialism, modernity, and religion (Islam and Judaism) in this region during the turn of the nineteenth century.
