Twelfth century Tibetan painting. On one side, three bodhisattvas are depicted. From left to right: Avalokitesvara, the bodhisattva
of compassion, Shadakshari Lokesvara, a form of Avalokitesvara, and Maitreya, the Buddha of the future. On the other side,
three monks are represented. In the centre, Atisha, the great Indian Buddhist master is flanked by two Tibetan patriarchs.
All the figures are represented seated with their legs crossed, in front of an arch and with halos.
